Star Wars: The Last Jedi blasted through the competition with an estimated $220 million dollars. The Last Jedi easily claimed the top spot at the box office and made $450 million worldwide in its first weekend of release, racking up tons of records along the way. The House of Mouse is undoubtedly pleased. Elsewhere in the top ten, at a distant second, is Fox's Ferdinand which managed only $13.4 million. Predictably, the animated feature could not stand up to the might of Disney.
Next weekend will finally bring significant change to the top ten as the box office sees the release of not one or two, but five new releases all dreaming of being crushed by Disney's behemoth. Hugh Jackman's The Greatest Showman, The Rock's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Matt Damon's Downsizing, Owen Wilson's Father Figures, and Anna Kendrick's Pitch Perfect 3 will all clash for the #2 spot behind The Last Jedi. Good Luck.
