Weekend Box Office Results: March 25-27, 2016

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice dominated the box office with an estimated $166 million dollars.  The movie broke all sorts of records and managed to eviscerate the competition despite lackluster reviews.  The film also did well internationally and its worldwide total sits at $420 million. With no serious competition until May when Marvel's Civil War is released, it remains a mystery whether Dawn will continue to do well at the box office or have a precipitous drop due to its tepid at best critical reception. On the far other end of the superhero spectrum Deadpool meanwhile managed to hold onto its spot in the top ten at #7 with an estimated $4.89 million. Deadpool is now just $2 million away from becoming the most successful film in Fox's X-Men franchise with an estimated international cume of $745 million. 

Besides the superpowered titans, the only other new comer to the top ten was My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. Wedding earned an estimated $17.86 million, which was good enough for the #3 slot. That wasn't enough to overcome Disney's Zootopia, which came in at #2 with an estimated $24.02 million. Zootopia continues to perform well for Disney, and its worldwide cume now sits at just under $700 million.  The Divergent Series: Allegiant continued its lackluster performance bringing in only $9.43 million for #5 spot behind the faith based Miracles from Heaven. Allegiant will come nowhere close to Hunger Games success and will continue to struggle in the coming weeks. Heaven on the other hand earned $9.69 million over the Easter weekend while the other Christian film Risen...er rose (I'm so sorry that was terrible) to the #10 spot with an estimated $935 thousand.
